BEYOND THE SEA // A SHORT FILM REVIEW OF "AURA"

BY MATEO MORENO

Chun Chun Chang's digital animanted short film AURA has already racked up an impressive resume. Not only did it screen at the Oscar qualifying Encounters Film Festival, it's also played at such fests as the LA Shorts Fest, RiverRun International Film Festival, Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival, Athens International Film and Video Festival, to name a few. Completely dialogue free, the story focuses on a mortal man who gets caught in a brutal storm that seems to come out of nowhere. Within the storm, he comes face to face with a Goddess. Could this all be in his mind, or is this mortal man having one truly magestic experience?

Filled with stunning animation and with a run time of less than four minutes, AURA is a breataking piece of cinema. The rich colors and vibrant details captures the spirt of the film perfectly and practically begs for a longer version of the story. Chun Chun Chang is rich in their animated storytelling and in only a few minutes creates a vibrant world that's beyond worthy of a feature follow-up. Make sure to follow Chun Chun Chang on Vimeo to see more and upcoming projects and be on the lookout for AURA at your local film festival this year! I, for one, can't wait to see it on the big screen myself and to continue the journey of the destined meeting of man and goddess.
