TRIBECA FILM FESTIVAL 2015 // A FILM REVIEW OF "JACKRABBIT"

BY W DEREK JORDEN

The 2015 Tribeca Film Festival, presented by AT&T, runs April 15th-26th and features hundreds of features, documentaries, short films, and special events all throughout downtown New York City. The ArtsWire Weekly's three featured reviewers Mateo, Derek, & Chrisena are hitting the festival and bringing the reviews right to you! What you should see and what you should skip...

Director Carleton Ranney's latest feature JACKRABBIT is set in some nondescript apocalyptic time when the world's technology has regressed and the population has decreased, both immensely. Two hackers, Simon and Max, trying to buck the system in their own way come together to find the truth about the mysterious suicide of a mutual hacker friend. Why'd he do it? What was he on to that was so revolutionary that he took--or gave up--his own life?

The acting was adequate and an impressive performance was turned in By Ian Christopher Noel as Max, but the story had holes and incomplete thoughts. Some people were going crazy, another gal had a baby she wasn't properly caring for, the soldiers were rather dirty, and all of this gave us glimpses into the daily experiences of the people alive at this moment in time, but what was really the point?

VERDICT: SKIP IT
